Welcome Back Mr Schumacher
Tribute to the Maestro's returnhumour by Inky Black
Michael Schumacher twice proved he can win the World Driver's Championship. Now he has to prove he can win one for somebody else! Eddie Irvine is close, but he can't match the speed of the McLarens. At least not without a little magic from the champion.
Welcome back Schuey. Now get out there and don't win! We need you to set up the car. And to push the McLarens. Or maybe get in front and slow 'em down. Anything but win. That's Eddie Irvine's job!
Go figure out the tyre choices... and the race strategy. Get with Eddie and find the fast way around. Show the pit-crew how to do a four, not three, but four-tyre pit stop. Then Michael, when you've got a free minute, duck into the McLaren pit and steal one of their tyres!
Schuey must be thinking, "Why did I comeback? This is more work than ever!" Yes, the man who could be on the couch, is on the hot seat.
Not that Eddie can't win it by himself. Nobody can. It's a team sport. The trick is what Schuey brings to the team. More than just a driver, Schuey is an integral part of Ferrari, and the team is built around him.
Schuey may be back for a good long time. When he stops driving he'll still be part of a fast team. Maybe as team manager, maybe as team owner. Schumacher can create speed in the pits as well as on the course. And we're pretty sure he can count to four as well!
So Michael Schumacher may never leave again. He'll race, then he'll manage. In time he'll turn into a doddering old geezer, carrying an ear trumpet and wandering off between the pit stops... and still be one of the fastest on the block. Welcome back Schuey. Good Luck.
